An Introduction to Biodiversity Open Workshop

Join this open workshop to gain the baseline knowledge your organisation needs to start making nature-positive decisions.

Business in the Community has developed the “Introduction to Biodiversity” workshop in response to growing demand for nature-positive actions within sustainable business. Nature-based solutions go hand in hand with combatting climate change, and businesses have a responsibility to protect and enhance our natural environment. However, an understanding of biodiversity and its interactions with the environment, society and business is required to drive forward the necessary changes.

The session has been designed to provide that baseline knowledge for professionals working across all sectors and departments and is suitable for beginners.

The workshop provides an overview of the following topics:

●What is biodiversity and why is it important?

●Threats to biodiversity

●Business and biodiversity

●Practical steps for businesses

BITC Business and Biodiversity Charter Overview Webinar

Details

Biodiversity encompasses the variety of life on earth. From micro-organisms to whole ecosystems, all plants, animals, fungi, and the interactions between them, fall under the umbrella of biodiversity. Businesses are now under increasing pressure to understand and minimise their impacts on biodiversity, and business in the community’s biodiversity campaign has been developed to help them do this.

The Business and Biodiversity Charter provides a framework to help businesses in Northern Ireland engage with biodiversity whilst gaining recognition for their efforts. It has been designed with the Task Force on Nature Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations in mind, so that participating businesses are supported in aligning with mandatory requirements coming down the line. The Charter is based around a staged approach, and is applicable to all organisations from micro-businesses to large facilities owned by multi-national companies. In order to successfully determine an organisation’s level of achievement within the Charter, participants will need to demonstrate how they meet each level – Foundation, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

This Webinar will provide an overview of the Charter process to provide more information for organisations interested in participating.
