Business Advisor

Location: Down Business Centre, 46 Belfast Road, Downpatrick
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 28 hours per week (4 days)
Salary: £25,188 per annum

Start Date: 9th July 2025

About Us

Down Business Centre a local enterprise agency within the Newry, Mourne and Down district area supporting businesses in the East Down region. We provide expert advice, training, and facilities to help businesses start, grow and succeed.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Advisor to join our team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for a dynamic professional who can provide strategic guidance to local businesses, in the areas of business planning, business legalities, finance, general marketing and other supporting information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert business support and advice to entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • Deliver one-to-one mentoring on business planning, business start up, business growth in key areas of strategy, business planning, finance, business legalities, operations, HR and marketing.
  • Assist businesses in developing business strategies, and robust business plans for the future of their business
  • Support clients with the development and growth of their business providing them with the latest up to date information on services, grants, funding, events, relevant information suited to their business and any additional opportunities which would help individual business owners and their business
  • Work closely with DBC to deliver additional business support initiatives.

Essential Criteria:

  • Have a business, operations, finance or HR background.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in business, or a related field.
  • At least three years’ experience in a business advisory, or business development role.
  • Strong knowledge of business strategy, business legalities, finance, HR and marketing.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with SMEs or start-ups.
  • Knowledge of funding and support available to businesses in Northern Ireland.
  • Experience delivering business workshops or training.
  • Coaching or mentoring Certification
  • Have owned your own business
